Supplying and laying of marbles for Chateau Fonbadet: a project in France by Stonest

Posted on 01 Aug 2025

We played a crucial role in providing and laying the natural stones included in an important architectural project in France, Chateau Fonbadet, an historical winery in Pauillac, a municipality situated at around 50km north from Bordeaux, in the middle of the most famous area for the production of red wine. The restoration project concerned the transition from a simple farm to a high-level accommodation facility, with a design that added great value to the architectural and the landscape environment.

A major architectural project in France saw us lead the way in the supply and installation of natural stone for Château Fonbadet, a historic winery in the municipality of Pauillac, about 50 km north of Bordeaux, in the heart of the most prestigious red wine producing area. The project involved the transformation from a simple farm to a high-end hospitality facility, with a design that enhanced the architectural and landscape context.

From the first contact to the choice of materials
The first contact with the architectural office in charge of developing the project originated from a common knowledge of the installation techniques in natural stone field. After an initial discussion on the specific requirements of the project, we received the architectural drawings and processed a preliminary technical and economical offer. We closed the deal at our premises in Massa Carrara (Italy) where the project managers and the client could personally select the most suitable marble slabs for each space, thanks to our wide range of available materials. We could then propose various alternatives, with more accessible costs than the ones calculated at the beginning.

A project guided by the chromatic contrast
All the stones with a light color background (Statuarietto, Calacatta Carrara grey vein and Arabescato Arni) were combined with 1 only dark color marble, Gris Santander, that became the leading material of the whole project. In the common areas, Gris Santander was combined with Bianco Carrara C for producing the floorings, the toilets for visitors and the sinks, creating some elegant chromatic contrasts in a perfect balance between tradition and modernity.

From the planning to the delivery
After defining all materials and budget, we moved forward to the technical part, divided in 2 principal phases:

    First phase:
  • accurate instrumental survey
  • sending drawings for approval and revision
  • setting up the related cut to size
    Second phase:
  • scheduling the deliveries
  • starting production
  • coordinating logistics
  • processing the installations layouts
  • coordinating the installation process

Thanks to the efficient scheduling and the excellent work of the layers who oversaw the whole job, the project was completed and delivered 2 weeks in advance than scheduled with the building company and the final client.
